The Unfiltered Voice: Speaking Truth to Power by Samuel Umlas
Let’s be real—politics can feel like one big mess. Every day, we see the same headlines: corruption scandals, broken promises, and leaders making decisions that leave the rest of us wondering, Do they even care about what’s happening down here? It’s exhausting. And it’s easy to just tune it all out, right? I get that. I used to do that too.
But here’s the thing—ignoring politics doesn’t make it go away. It’s still there, messing with our lives, whether we like it or not. Rising prices? That’s political. Internet censorship? Political. The climate crisis? You guessed it—political. And the frustrating part is that the people making these big decisions aren’t always the ones dealing with the consequences. We are. So why do so many of us stay silent? Maybe it’s because we’re tired, disillusioned, or convinced that our voices don’t matter. I’ve felt that too. Sometimes it seems like no matter what we do, nothing changes. But that’s exactly how the people in power want us to think. Because when we stay quiet, when we stop paying attention, they get to keep doing whatever they want without anyone holding them accountable. That’s why I’m writing this. Not because I have all the answers—I don’t. But because I’m tired of watching things go wrong and pretending it’s not my problem. I want to be part of the conversation, and I want you to be part of it too. We don’t have to be experts or politicians to care about what’s happening in the world. We just have to care enough to start paying attention, asking questions, and, when the time comes, using our vote to demand something better. Change won’t happen overnight. It might not even happen in a year or two. But every little action adds up. Speaking up, staying informed, calling out the BS when we see it—that’s how we start turning the tide. The world isn’t perfect, and it never will be. But we don’t have to accept things the way they are. We can push for more. We can make noise. And maybe, just maybe, we’ll remind the people in power that we’re still here, we’re still watching, and we’re not backing down anytime soon.
