Living life at my own pace By: Shan Philip J. Luga
People always talk about lifestyle like it’s some kind of formula—wake up early, hustle hard, follow a strict routine. But for me, it’s never been about that. Life isn’t just about being productive or following trends. It’s about how we choose to experience the world, the little things we notice, and the moments that actually make us feel alive. I find comfort in solitude, excitement in adventure, and meaning in the simple things. Whether it’s through writing, playing badminton, or just sitting by the sea, my lifestyle is shaped by the things that bring me peace.
Nowadays, everyone is in a rush. We always feel like we need to be achieving something—getting better grades, improving skills, or planning for the future. But sometimes, I wonder: what’s the point if we’re too busy to even enjoy the present? When I play badminton, I focus on the moment—every movement, every strategy, every hit. It’s one of the few times when my mind isn’t wandering somewhere else. The same goes for writing. It helps me slow down and reflect, turning thoughts into words before they disappear. Life isn’t just about moving forward. It’s also about knowing when to pause and appreciate where you are right now.
I like doing things alone—not because I don’t enjoy being with people, but because solitude gives me space to breathe. It’s where I feel the most at peace, whether I’m hiking, sitting by the sea, or just walking without a destination. In a world that’s always noisy and fast-paced, I’ve learned that it’s okay to slow down. To enjoy the quiet. To take my time figuring things out without pressure. I’ve always found it ironic how sunsets symbolize goodbyes yet manage to be so beautiful. It reminds me that not all endings are sad—sometimes, they’re just a part of life. People leave, moments pass, and things change. But instead of holding on too tightly, maybe the best thing to do is to appreciate them while they last.
Life isn’t perfect. There will always be challenges, setbacks, and moments of uncertainty. But at the same time, there will always be little things that make it all worth it—the right people, the right moments, and the unexpected joys we find along the way. At the end of the day, there’s no single “right” way to live. Everyone has their own pace, their own priorities, and their own way of finding happiness. For me, it’s about balance—pushing myself to grow but also allowing myself to just be. Whatever lifestyle you choose, I hope it’s one that makes you feel at peace with yourself. Because at the end of it all, that’s what really matters.
